The Desert of Lam is the desert to the east of the Former Empire
History
origins
the people of the desert were originally a nation of bandits using Sand Speeders1 to follow and mug/ambush traveling merchants bound for the desert port city of Ajek Lam from the mainland's capitol city.
after being known as bandits for many a thousand years, the Resistance took down the tyrant emperor of the mainland, leaving merchants free to build a dock closer to the capitol, making the trip of goods from the capitol to Sucre a much more pleasurable and safe experience for the merchants, however, this put the planets out of the job of ambushes, so they began to build an economy and country. the Sand Speeders are now used to transport the major goods from Ajek Lam and other cities to the capitol.
folklore
The main folklore is of and about mostly Wolf, one of the highest ranking officers of the Resistance when the empire was taken down. the lore consists mainly of when the city of Ajek Lam was graced by Wolf's presence 14 years previously, and of his escapades in the Resistance.

Geography
can you guess?
1The Sand Speeder
the Sand Speeder, the main form of transportation in the desert, can come in a variety of flavors (so to speak).
basic design
the basic design of normal Sand Speeders is about 20 feet long, and 10 feet wide (the reason why the streets are so thick in the cities), all have a mast in the exact center of the thing (with a sail; about 15 feet tall), a cabin in the back with floor to ceiling windows that can be shaded (inside an average cabin is a table, a navigator's table, and a fireplace), finally they have two ski-like platforms on the bottom to move the thing. (the entire thing has a wood floor, for long journeys, one would typically use a larger Speeder)
workings: mechanical
the speeders are normally controlled by the Winds, but it's not like the people have nothing to say about it. for emergency stops, one can raise the mast, or "drop anchor", which is basically smashing the mast off the freakin' ship, which allows for a shorter stopping time. or if all else fails, you could just jump off…
workings: non-mechanical
the speeders are controlled by the wind. the sand people created a crude form of Druidity to make the wind move in their favor, they simply summon the gods of wind to blow in their favor. however effective this method is, the gods of wind tend to be quite picky, so they would ask for the exact duration, intensity, and direction in which to blow. the Planets got around this by using a form of echo-navigation through sand, so to move one of these things, they would first shoot a shock wave through the sand, cities would show up on their "RADAR" (yes it stands for something, look it up, radar is not a word, neither is Laser), and they would then summon and instruct the gods of wind. they would not be able to detect people, which made the three ways listed in the previous section extremely useful in mugging. now, even though the speeders had a recommended crew of three, you could conceivably make it go somewhere with nothing but cargo, which is useful for trading goods.
variations
small: for short journeys and transporting goods
generally no cabin, just a nav table and mast on wood
large: long journeys across the desert and passenger transporters
large cabin with three small one person beds, a table, fireplace, and large nav table with all necessary equipment for navigating
ferry(invented after Resistance and Emperor): transporting large amounts of cargo/passengers to a single destination
sort of like a normal ship, on land, but much shorter, and much longer (only about 10 feet off the ground; but about one hundred feet long), w/ many navs and a hundred cabins
government
the capitol is the dock city Ajek Lam (aw-jeck Lawm), they have two leaders, both of equal status and jurisdiction, and a board of people dedicated to taking care of the small fractures in the nation, land disputes, bandits (ironic isn't it).
